In April 2024, EmpowerK12 partnered with the D.C. Education Research Collaborative to co-host the inaugural D.C. Math Summit at the Urban Institute. The event brought together educators, policymakers, and researchers to discuss the critical issues in math education within Washington, D.C. The summit focused on sharing the strategies DC educators harnessed to enhance math instruction and improve student outcomes across the District.
The D.C. Math Summit featured a series of workshops, panel discussions with national experts and researchers, and keynote speeches aimed at sharing model practices, innovative teaching methods, and the latest research in math education. Highlights included sessions on data-driven instruction, equity in math education, and engaging students through interactive learning techniques.
EmpowerK12, a valued member of our research council, organized and led the effort in partnership with leaders across the DC education system with strategic support from the Collaborative. Our role as principal partners in this initiative, and our membership in the D.C. Math Hub overall, underscores our commitment to fostering a robust educational environment where research and evidence-based practices inform policy and instructional decisions. By providing strategic support and amplifying math-focused efforts, we aim to ensure that all prospective research and evidence efforts emanate from the Collaborative and its members.
As we continue to support the D.C. Math Hub, we look forward to the positive impact it will have on math education in DC. For more information, visit the DC Math Hub website.
